Member Outreach


LSBA's Member Outreach and Diversity team works to increase collegiality and outreach to LSBA members through measures such as:

  • Designing welcoming activities to create mentoring opportunities for the newest members of the Bar Association;
  • Hosting LSBA Photo Bar ID events across the state, giving members the opportunity to receive their updated photo Bar ID at no cost;
  • Providing networking opportunities for members throughout the state;
  • Strengthening relationships with local and specialty bar associations through programming collaboration;
  • Developing leadership skills for less seasoned attorneys and local and specialty bar leaders;
  • Increasing the presence of LSBA leadership at events throughout the state; and
  • Providing member benefits that enhance and make easier the practice of law for all attorneys.

Louisiana’s Revised Emergency Election Plan
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the presidential preference election has been rescheduled to July 11, 2020 and the municipal general election to August 15, 2020.

Governor John Bel Edwards has issued an emergency plan to safely hold elections statewide. Please read the full emergency protection plan here.

Tulane University Law School Diversity Networking Reception – March 10, 2020
On March 10, 2020, Tulane University Law School hosted its annual Diversity Networking Reception at Vyonne’s Restaurant. The networking reception served On March 10, 2020, Tulane University Law School hosted its annual Diversity Networking Reception at Vyonne’s Restaurant. The networking reception served as an opportunity for diverse law students to network with attorneys and judges in the Greater New Orleans area.

Cancelled - Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession, August 7, 2020
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the LSBA Diversity Committee has made the difficult decision to cancel the 13th Annual Conclave on Diversity in the Legal Profession scheduled on August 7, 2020 at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel. The 2021 Conclave has been rescheduled for March 5, 2021. 

The 2021 Conclave will feature the same exciting format and sessions with highly credentialed speakers that will provoke discussions regarding the scope and meaning of inclusion, the state of the profession, and the case for a diverse and inclusive legal profession. 

Registrants and Sponsors will be notified. Registrants will be provided with the option of transferring registration. Sponsors will be provided an opportunity to support the conference in 2021.

University of Louisiana at Lafayette, Office for Campus Diversity/Student Awards
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) has cancelled the in-person Black Student Achievement Awards. The Black Student Achievement Awards annually recognize high achieving students and their families.

In place of the in-person ceremony, the BFSA Executive Board created a virtual experience to recognize recipients. Students were sent their certificates in the mail and encouraged to share photos on social media. Clyde R. Simien, partner at law firm Simien and Miniex, served as keynote speaker. The four highest achieving students received individual scholarships of $500 to support their academic pursuits. Scholarship recipients: Bianca L. Brroussard, Quincy M. Damon, Olawale Ariyibi, and Brooklyn York.

Black History Month CLE Seminar – February 13, 2020
On February 13, 2020, the LSBA Diversity Committee’s Pipeline to Diversity and Outreach Subcommittee and Adams and Reese LLP hosted the Black History Month CLE Seminar at Adams and Reese LLP in Baton Rouge.

Stephanie A. Finley, Attorney at Law presented on “The Right to Vote,” which informed attendees about the history of voting rights from the Pre-American Revolution to present-day.

Baton Rouge Bar Association Black History Month Luncheon and Celebration – February 12, 2020
On February 12, 2020, the Baton Rouge Bar Association hosted a Black History Month Luncheon and Celebration at Ruffino’s at De La Ronde Hall in Baton Rouge. The Black History Month Luncheon was co-sponsored by the Louis A. Martinet Society, Baton Rouge Chapter; Federal Bar Association, Baton Rouge Chapter; and the Baton Rouge Association of Women Attorneys.

Marcus V. Brown, Executive Vice President and General Counsel for Entergy Corp. served as speaker.

GNO Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Inc. 5th Annual Pathways and Pipelines – February 8, 2020
On February 8, 2020, the Greater New Orleans Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Inc. hosted its fifth annual Pathways and Pipelines to Success Program at Tulane University Law School.

The Pathways and Pipelines Success program provides Louisiana law students with career-building tools and networking opportunities. During the day-long event, law students had the opportunity to learn from prominent judges and lawyers from our community and gained essential skills to navigate within the legal profession.

BRBA Opening of Court Ceremony – January 29, 2020
On January 29, 2020, the Baton Rouge Bar Association hosted its annual Opening of Court, Memorial and New Member Ceremony at 8:30 a.m. at the 19th Judicial District Courthouse. During the ceremony, President, S. Dennis Blunt and President Elect, Christopher K. Jones recognized 50-, 55-, 60- and 65-year members of the bar. LSBA President, Robert A. “Bob” Kutcher, introduced new members.  The Opening of Court Ceremony also paid homage to deceased bar members.

LSBA Citizen Lawyer Award Recipients – January 18, 2020

Lafayette Bar Association Court Opening – January 10, 2020
On January 10, 2020, the Lafayette Bar Association hosted its annual Red Mass and Court Opening ceremony.  The Red Mass was held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. The Court Opening ceremony was held at the 15th JDC Courthouse. 2019-2020 LSBA president, Robert A. “Bob” Kutcher”, joined the 15th JDC in remembering deceased members of the Bar and welcoming new Admittees.  A reception followed at the Jefferson Street Pub.
